Hempe Busemann was born October 8 or 12 1846, at Rorichmoor, Ostfriesland, Germany. While yet in her infancy she received the rite of Holy baptism. After she had been duly instructed in God's Word and the Christian religion she was by confirmation received into the full membership of the Reformed Church. She was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Busemann, Sr., and came to America in the spring of 1891, making her home on a farm two miles southwest of Klemme, Hancock, County, Iowa. On September 22, 1915, her husband was called from her side, whereupon she remained on her farm for a few years yet and then moved to Klemme, in 1918 (514 E. Main Street). Mrs. Busemann was blessed with a very strong constitution which enabled her to maintain her physical strength in her high age. However, during the last year her health began to fail. Having not been well for several weeks, her illness seemed to become serious about a week before her death. Realizing that her end was near, relatives and friends were called to her bedside. All that medical and loving hands could do was in vain. She died at her home in Klemme, Iowa October 26, 1923, at 9:00 p.m. She leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. Harm (Johanna Beek) Coobs, of McGregor, Iowa; six sons; four daughters; fifty grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. She attained the age of 77 years and 18 days. Mrs. Busemann was a member of good standing of Immanuel Reformed Church for over 26 years, and she will certainly be missed by her many friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, October 29th at the home then at the Reformed Church and burial was made in Calvary Cemetery.
