M. D. Miller, 74, better known as Morrie to his family and friends, passed through this life on his way to the Promised Land on May 12, 1999. His family will have a celebration of his life with services at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Overton Family Funeral Home, Blairstown. Burial: Blairstown Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; a son, Duane and wife Julie of Blairstown; and three daughters, Denise Miller and husband Jim of Vail, Doreen Brower and husband Kevin of Cedar Rapids and Donna Heitman and husband Randy of Williamsburg. Also surviving are his aunt, Bertha Miller of Marengo; his sister-in-law, Alice Houmes of Central City; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; a nephew; and his loving and faithful dog, Mick.

Morrie was born June 24, 1924, in Klemme, Iowa, to Frank and Rose Miller. He was raised in the south Benton County area and received his education in Norway and Blairstown and graduated from high school in Newhall. Morrie was united in marriage on Feb. 11, 1947, to Alvena Kubec in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They made their home in Blairstown for most of their married life. Alvena preceded Morrie in death on June 11, 1973. On May 28, 1984, he married his second wife, Martha Miller. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Morrie served his country as a member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and was an active member of M.J. Kirby American Legion Post 170. Morrie was a feed salesman for 24 years with Moormans, but will be best remembered as the operator of Millers Tastee Freez, which he owned for many years. He enjoyed trapping, fishing, golfing and motorcycle riding. He loved sharing stories and riding his motorcycle on local roads picking up cans for recycling. Morrie was a fun-loving man and truly wanted his family and friends to feel comfortable when they were around him. In that spirit, his and his family's wishes are that his funeral be rather informal. Please join us in this celebration of his life.
