Peter W. Johnson, 75, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 27, 2009 at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church.

Peter was born December 30, 1933 to Peter Walter and Sara (Smith) Johnson in Klemme, Iowa. He was a graduate of Humboldt High School and attended the University of Iowa. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard and served in the US Army, stationed in Germany as a personnel officer. He was united in marriage to Elaine Wilhelm on June 4, 1956 in LuVerne, Iowa, who joined him in Germany. When they returned to the states Peter and Elaine lived most of their lives in New Hampton, Iowa before moving to the Des Moines area in 1988. Peter retired as a Branch Manager in sales for Spreitzer Inc. in Ankeny, Iowa. He enjoyed family time and activities, reading, playing golf, cards and fishing. He was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; son, Peter M. Johnson and his fiancée, Valerie Weatherall of West Des Moines; sisters: Shirley Kilgore of Birmingham, Alabama, Barbara Benish and twin sister, Nancy (Bert) Park both of Richardson, Texas; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Iles Funeral Homes- Westover Chapel 6337 Hickman Road Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to Windsor Heights Lutheran Church or The Iowa Heart Foundation. ARRANGEMENTS BY ILES FUNERAL HOMES ~ WESTOVER CHAPEL.
