February 8, 2006Laurence Greiman, 94, of Garner, died on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center, Forest City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 8, at 10:30 a.m., at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner with the Rev. Tim Diehl officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Margaret Jass. Ushers will be Daryl Upmeyer and Glen Greiman. Casket bearers will be Amy Peterson, Brad Peterson, Celine Hartwig, Andrew Hartwig, Brad Muhm and Glen Alden. Burial will be in the Concord Township Cemetery, Garner. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. The Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Laurence Eugene Theodore Greiman, the son of William Henry and Bessie (Schultz) Greiman, was born on May 22, 1911, on a farm north of Klemme. He attended rural school near his home and graduated from the Klemme High School. After high school he worked with his father on the family farm. On December 11, 1937, he married Hazel Mae Hodson at Forest City. They farmed in the Garner and Klemme areas. In 1951, they moved into Klemme and a year later into Garner. Besides farming Laurence worked at a creamery and sawmill. In his retirement years, he was a taxi driver at Prairie View Apartments in Garner. In February of 2004 he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. He enjoyed his family, gardening and was an avid reader. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner.
Laurence is survived by his children, Bill (Liela) Greiman of Santa Rosa, California and Janice (Tim) Hartwig of Ankeny; grandchildren, Sonja (Brad) Muhm of Garner, Andrew (Celine) Hartwig of Iowa City and Amy (Brad) Peterson of Ankeny; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hallie Stromer of Rapid City, South Dakota, Esther Fillmore of Marion and Gladys (Eldridge) Alden of Klemme; brothers, Victor (Lois) Greiman of Dayton, Ohio and Earl (Alice) Greiman of Golden, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel on March 11, 2005; his parents; and brothers, Maurice and Hilary Greiman.
