November 12, 2000David Frederick Horn, 78, of Cedar Falls died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at Reese Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Lynne Spencer-Smith officiating. Visitiation with the family will be at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery. David was born July 12, 1924 in Newton, the son of W. Lacey and Fern (Stephenson) Horn. He was a 1942 graduate of Newton High School. David served in the army in Alaska and India during World War II and attained the rank of corporal. Following his military service, David enrolled in the tool and die apprentice program at Maytag. He worked for Maytag in Newton, H & H Machine Tool and Doerfer Corporation in Cedar Falls, and John Deere in Waterloo. He retired in 1987. David married E. Virginia Rutherford on May 4, 1957. The couple had two daughters, Lee Ann and Lori Jo. The family lived in Newton until moving to Cedar Falls in 1967. David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, and an infant daughter, Brenda. He is survived by his daughter Lee, son-in-law Dirk and grandchildren, Kathryn and Grant van der Linden, all of Belmond; daughter Lori of Round Lake Beach, IL; sister Lois Walker of Newton; brothers J. Joseph Horn of Newton and W. Herbert Horn of Marshalltown.
