Gertrude Schaefer Beier, 101, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at United Methodist Church in Klemme with Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating. Music was by Barbara Schultz, organist; Lance Arnold, vocalist. Ushers were Calvin Bruggeman and John Schwichtenberg. Casket bearers were Paul Schaefer, Gary Blank, Kelly Schaefer, Todd Shipler, Scott Schaefer, and Tom Thorson. Honorary bearers were all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Interment was at Ell Township Cemetery near Klemme.

Gertrude Esther Stille, the daughter of J.J. and Clara Louise (Gast) Stille, was born April 8, 1900, on a farm west of Klemme. She was baptized at the home of her parents, She attended Liberty Country Schools. She was united in marriage to Elmer Schaefer on October 31, 1917. Elmer died in 1957. She married Elmer Beier on February 14, 1967. She was a member of the Liberty Church and later the United Methodist Church in Klemme; also the UMW in Klemme, She enjoyed puzzles, growing flowers and plants.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Elmer Schaefer and Elmer Beier; children, Velda Blank and Melvin (Rusty) Schaefer; step-son, Eugene Beier; brothers, Quentin Stille and Kermit Stille. Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Wavel and Darlene Schaefer of Kanawha; daughter-in-law, Betty Neuberger of Klemme; step-children, Mrs. Eugene (Carmen) Beier in California, LaVonne Simon of Winterset, Beverly Thorson of Klemme, Shirley (Douglas) Doolittle of Webster City, Robert (Donna) Beier of Pleasantville, Gordon (Jane) Beier of Klemme, Ronald Beier in Minnesota, Mary (Maynard) Olson of Mason City, Janis (Wayne) Smith of Webster City, Joann (Roger) Hansen of Kanawha, James Beier in Pennsylvania, Robert (Linda) Beier of Mason City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Grace Stille of Kanawha, George and Ina Stille of Garner; sisters, Fern Carlson of Clear Lake, Lucille Bridges and her husband, Cecil of Thornton; sister-in-law, Minnie Stille of Thornton; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
