Belmond Independent, IowaMervin "Buzz" Groesbeck, 82, of Garner died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services were held Nov. 19 at the United Methodist Church in Klemme. Mervin, the son of Clarence H. and Minnie (Blocker) Groesbeck, was born January 17, 1919, on a farm near Garner in Ell Township in Hancock County. Buzz attended the rural schools of Ell Township, and the Garner High School. He later helped his father on the farm. On May 6, 1941 he was inducted into the U.S. Army, during WW II. He was a Sergeant in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaigns, being discharged on July 12, 1945. When he returned home, he continued to farm. On June 27, 1946, he married Doris V. Pringnitz at the Liberty Methodist Church near Klemme. They farmed near Klemme. He drove school bus for five years and enjoyed fishing, woodworking. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme, the Garner V.F.W., American Legion, Farm Bureau, and was a former township chairman.
Buzz was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda in 1969; his father, Clarence in 1983; his mother, Minnie in 1936; his step-mother, Pauline in 1990; and three brothers, Ronald in 1991, Eugene in 1991 and Lowell in 1979. Buzz is survived by his wife, Doris of Garner; three children and their spouses, Berdean and Ron Dolan of West Des Moines, Myrna and Bill Eisenlauer of Pleasant Hill, and Bradley and Linda Groesbeck of Garner; a foster daughter, Alicia McGrew and her husband Paul of Marshalltown; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Armour Mullin of Ames, and Maxine and Adrian Skoda of New Hampton; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Groesbeck of Sheffield, and Judy Harp of Minnesota.
