August 22, 1897 -- August 8, 1967

Richard Bessman of Dows, 69, died Tuesday, August 8 at the Iowa University Hospital at Iowa City. He was a lifelong resident of Dows and Popejoy area. He was born August 22, 1897 at Popejoy, the son of Frank and Amelia Bessman. On November 1, 1919, he was married to Henrietta Carr at Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, (Ardis) Mrs. Millard Ash of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. W. G. Knox of Dows, and one brother, Fred Bessman of Alden. Also surviving are two grandsons and four step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and two brothers.

Funeral Services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Van Hove Funeral Home at Dows. Interment was in the Alden cemetery. Rev. Ray Bailey officiated at the services. The Van Hove Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
