Merle F. Pannhoff, 79, of 1601 9th Street Southwest, Mason City, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. A funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 5, at the United Methodist Church, Ventura, with Pastor Rhoda Preston and Pastor Ed Bard officiating. Burial was at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Merle was born June 1, 1930, the son of John and Annie (Heginger) Pannhoff in rural Hancock County, Iowa. He attended country school and Ventura High School. Merle married Ruth (Beaver) on Feb. 9, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and to this union three children were born. Merle was a farmer most of his life from 1951-1992. Merle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ventura and served on the County Extension Services Board. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, Mason City; his children, Terry (Vicki) Pannhoff, Owasso, Okla., Gene (Julie) Pannhoff, Mason City and Janita (Patrick) Cavanaugh, Stockton, Calif.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brother, Raymond (Lorena) Pannhoff; his sister, Mary (Curtis) Clark; his sister-in-law, Marlene Kester, and numerous nieces and nephews.Merle was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Lyle, Dean and Kenneth and Arlene Lovik. Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
