CLEAR LAKE, IA --Curtis R. Jante, 73, of 607 N. Shore Drive, died Thursday (Aug. 22, 1996) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemtery, with military honors provided by the Garner V.F.W. Post #5515. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour before services at the church. The family requests memorials in his name.

Curtis was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Garner, the son of Edward and Frieda (Dietz) Jante. He graduated from Garner High School in 1940. He farmed with his parents before entering the service. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard during World War II in the European Theater. He was united in marriage with Florence Cline on Aug. 25, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Garner. Together, they farmed in the Garner area until 1956. Curtis and Florence built the A&W Restaurant in Belmond and operated it until 1961 when they sold the business. They purchased the A&W in Forest City and operated it until 1989. He and Florence moved to Clear Lake in January of 1989. While involved with A&W, Curtis was a member of the National Advisory Council for A&W and was president of the Iowa A&W Association. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and a charter member of Garner V.F.W. Post #5515. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed sharing time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Jante, of Clear Lake; three children, Ray Jante and his wife, Jan, of Keokuk; Linda Dickson and her husband, Jim, of Ankeny; and Sherill Moen and her husband, Dan, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Bernice Becker of Jewell; a brother, LuVerne Jante and his wife, Helen, of Fort Dodge; eight grandchildren, Teri Jo Peterson, Eddy Jante, Billie Jante, Brett Jante, Meghan Dickson, Guy Dickson, Jeremie Moen and Lyndsey Moen; and four great-grandchildren, Teri Lyn Peterson, Samantha Peterson, Ashley Jante and Colton Jante. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Edna; two brothers, Elmer Jante and Edwin Jante, who gave his life at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941; and a sister, Lois McCabe Jones.
