BELMOND, IA-- Elias Roland "Shorty" Klinefelter Jr., 68, died Monday (Aug. 25, 1997) at his home in Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ken Fineran officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Elias Roland "Shorty" Klinefelter Jr., the son of Elias and Helena (Pearson) Klinefelter, was born Dec. 10, 1928, at Alexander. He attended and graduated from the Alexander High School in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 1946, and served two years during World War II, serving in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Pasadena. Shorty was married to Ruby Wagoner on April 19, 1949, in Belmond. He worked at General Mills in Belmond, was plant manager for Midwest Egg Processing Plant in Alexander, owned and operated the Mello Maid Cafe in Belmond, worked for Iowa Mold & Tool in Garner, and most recently at Eaton Corporation in Belmond. After his retirement, he enjoyed his hobbies, reading, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his friends and family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ruby; daughter, Toni Anderson and her husband, Jeff, of Belmond; a son, Michael Klinefelter and his wife, Marcia, of Shell Rock; grandchildren, Erika, Josh, Shelley and Blair; and sisters, Bernadine Chandler, Mildred Dorr, La Vonne McCoy and Jeanette Schroder, all of Belmond. Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son; a sister, Evenette; and an infant brother.
