Kanawha Soldier Dies of Injuries

Kanawha – Maynard John Riggle, son of John H. and Ollie Boeckholt Riggle, was born August 30, 1934, at Kanawha. He was baptized in the Methodist church at Kanawha in infancy, and attended school at Kanawha and Woden. On Jan. 13, 1951, he enlisted in the United States army at Mason City and was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. for his basic training. Later he took advanced training in other departments. On June 11, he was in an automobile accident and received serious injuries so great that he never regained consciousness even though he had been removed by plane to the army hospital in Denver, Colo., where he died Friday, Sept. 3. Surviving are his father, John Riggle of Pennsylvania, his mother, Mrs. Fred Graber of Woden, a sister, Corrine, a half brother, Charles Lee Graber, a half sister, Candace Graber. He was preceded in death by an infant sister. Military funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Woden Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Elmer Peterson, pastor. Official escort was Pvt. Eugene V. Matern. Burial was made in Woden cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Harm Boeckholt, Alvin Jacobs and Mr. and Mrs. Anton Pannkuk attended the funeral services of Pvt. Riggle who is a nephew of Harm.
