Former Woolstock Farmer Succumbs

WOOLSTOCK – C. H. Ratcliff, 84, longtime resident of the Woolstock area, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton county hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. E. V. Nelson of Vincent officiating. Burial was in the Graceland cemetery. Charles Henry Ratcliff, son of George and Ida Ratcliff, was born March 23, 1872, on a farm near Marshall, Minn. When he was five years old, his father died, and shortly after he came with his mother to a farm in the Bells mill area. He received his education in the schools of the Hamilton county area and grew to young manhood in that community. He was united in marriage March 14, 1903, to Bertha Huisinga, and the couple farmed in the Saratoga community for 12 years. The family then moved to a farm near Kamrar, living there for two years and moving to Wall Lake township for two years. They later farmed in Independence township, and three years later moved to another farm in the Oak Glen community in Cars township and lived there until June 4, 1951, when they retired and moved to Webster City to 1111 Division St., the family residence since.

Mr. Ratcliff is survived by three daughters and four sons: Mrs. Martin (Ida) Bige of Woolstock, Mrs. Ivan (Leona) McIntyre, Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. William (Betty) Hill of Fort Dodge, John and Gerald Ratcliff of Webster City, and Jake Ratcliff of Eagle Grove, and Donald Ratcliff of Woolstock; 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a half-brother, Ray Barnes of Orange Park, Fla., a half-sister, Mrs. Elva Slawson of Lehigh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nov. 26, 1951, and his parents, one brother, and two grandchildren. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and for many years served on the Oak Glen school board.
