Warren G. (John) Thompson, 73, Preston

Warren G. (John) Thompson, 73, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at his home in Preston, Minnesota. Warren Thompson was born April 7, 1925, in Greene County, Indiana, the son of Clyde and Maysel (Archer) Thompson. The family moved to rural Ft. Dodge. He grew up in the Wright County area in Iowa. In 1943 he enlisted in the Marines and served in Tinian and Midway during WWII. He was discharged in 1946. On Feb. 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lois Braylon in Iowa. They farmed for 10 years at Livermore, Iowa, and then moved to Lime Springs, Iowa, and then to Preston, Minn. In Preston he worked as a truck driver and retired in 1982 from Ruan Transport Company. He was a member of the Preston American Legion and the VFW Clubs. He also belonged to the Teamsters Local 160. He is survived by his wife; four sons, Wayne (Janet) of Goodhue, Brian (Jodie), Galen (Brenda), and Mark (Wendy) all of Zumbrota; five daughters, Aileen (Dave) Dubbels of Kasson, Minn.; Cheryl (Steve) Rahn of Lanesboro; Sharon (Steve) Paulson of Rushford; Janis (Kevin) Rain, and Shirley (Roger) Hareldson of Preston; 27 grandchildren; his father, Clyde of Ridgeway, Iowa, one brother, Milford (Kate) of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; and one sister, and Vivian Markman of Hardy, Iowa. He was preceded in death by two sons, one granddaughter, his mother, and one sister.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 10, at Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston with the Rev. Anthony Fink officiating. Burial was in the United Methodist Cemetery in Preston. Thauwald Funeral Home, Preston, was in charge of arrangements.
