James E. Martin, 63, died April 28, 2000 at his rural Mazeppa home of cancer. Jim was born June 13, 1936 in Des Moines. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1954 and commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy after graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1959. He served in WESPAC aboard the USS Mansfield DD728 as Engineering Officer and Executive Officer aboard the USS Whippoorwill MSC 207. On January 11, 1960 he married Sharon Luette Ultsch in Long Beach CA. In 1963 he joined IBM in Chicago as part of the petroleum marketing team, where he stayed until 1971 when he became Petroleum Industry Marketing Manager in Kuwait with IBM World Trade. He came to Rochester in 1975 where he finished his 28-year career with IBM in Marketing Support. He enjoyed scuba diving, woodworking, model building and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, two sons, Kurt and Derek; two daughters, Stacy and Erin; and two grandchildren, Gabriela and Devin; his parents Albert and Dorothy Martin of Belmond; three sisters, Marion of Belmond, Linda (Wade) Clarke of Moline, IL and Jane (Schuyler) Van Gorden of Eau Claire, WI.
