Belmond Independent - Belmond, Iowa

Marion Finch was born in Belmond, Iowa, on March 29, 1870, to William and Gittie Finch. She attended public school in Belmond and later, when the family moved to Davenport, she attended the Catholic Academy there. She received her higher education at the Academy at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and at the Art Institute in Chicago. For several years she was an art teacher in the schools in this county and gave private lessons in painting also. Marion Finch married Albert Earle Martin on June 25, 1902, in Belmond. To this union, two sons were born— William Dyer, who died shortly after birth, and Albert Earle, Jr. The Martins lived in Chicago for some time after their marriage until they moved to Olaf, Iowa, where they kept a general store. From Olaf, they moved to their farm one and a half miles west of Belmond, where they lived the rest of their married lives. Earle Martin preceded his wife in death in April 1931. Marion Martin spent the next years in Belmond, with the exception of a few winters spent in California, Florida and Georgia. She died on July 11, 1941, after a long illness. She is survived by son Lieut. A. E. Martin and wife Dorothy and two children, James and Marion, of Camp Stewart, Georgia, and two sisters, Mrs. C. G. Pritchard of Buffalo Center and Mrs. W. S. Pritchard of Garner and other relatives and friends.
