[Elias Dumond -- formerly of Belmond, Wright County, Iowa 1936 - 1897]
Another one of our number has joined the great throng who have gone to that bourne, whence no traveler returns. On the 15th inst., Mr. Elias Dumond breathed his last; aged 60 years, 2 months and 23 days. He formerly resided in Harper County, Kansas, but for several months he and his daughter, an only child, have been stopping with his sister, Mrs. Henry Barr. Last April a cancer appeared on his face for which he underwent two operations but all to no avail. At the time of his death, his body was exceedingly emaciated and wasted away. For sixteen years he has been identified with the Advent Church. His wife has been dead some eight years. The daughter is therefore left alone; for the present she will remain with Mrs. Barr. Many sympathizing friends rendered their assistance. May He who is ever the Father and Friend of the orphan, keep and sustain her. The funeral was conducted from John 14:1, 2, 3, by the writer. Rev. Dale.

Died March 15th, Elias Dumond, aged 60 years, 2 months, and 23 days. "Uncle Lias," as we all called him, lived among us for many years and was loved and respected by all who knew him. For sixteen years he had been identified with the Advent Church and he bore his suffering as only a Christian can. In April last a cancer appeared on his face, for which ha underwent two surgical operations, all of no avail. At the time of his death he was visiting relatives near Elliot, Iowa. He leaves an only daughter and many friends to mourn his demise. His wife died eight years ago; she was a sister of Rev. S. C. Oliver. The remains were buried in Iowa. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. H. N. Dale, his text being John xiv 1-2-3. Another one of our members has crossed over into the dark valley and shadow of death, our Brother Elias Dumond. Over sixteen years ago he heard the gospel of the kingdom, and believed it and was baptized by the writer, and became identified with the church of God. He then lived in Jasper County, Missouri, near Carthage. He was a firm believer in the final restitution of all things. In his death, the church at Attica loses a good member, and we shall miss him at our annual gathering, when we meet in memory of the death of our Lord, by partaking of the emblems of his broken body. This chair will be empty which he has regularly filled for the last fourteen years. We feel sad and sorrow not as those that have no hope for we believe he will live again, "Then all tears will be wiped from all eyes and there shall be no more death." Oh, how we long for our Savior' s return, for we hear him say, "I am He that liveth and was dead, and behold I am alive forevermore and have the keys of hell and of death."
S. C. Oliver - Harper County, Kansas
