Fredrick P. Heidick, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at his home. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 24, at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Karen Berg officiating. Cremation rites will follow the services at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, at North Lawn Cemetery with military honors presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856.

Fredrick is survived by his wife Betty; his children, Donna Flynn, Fresno, CA; Dennis (Linda) Heidick, Pharr, TX; Rick (Milissa) Heidick, Hutchinson, MN; daughter-in-law Mary Heidick, Fort Dodge; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; his siblings, Caroline (Kenny) Summers, Vincent; Mildred (Norval) Anderson, Clarion; and Walter (Bobbie) Heidick, Fresno, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Douglas Fred Heidick and his sister Lillian Ness.

Fredrick P. Heidick, the son of Fred W. and Minnie (Seegar) Heidick, was born May 6, 1917, at Woolstock, Iowa. In 1923, he moved from Woolstock to Fort Dodge and attended Fort Dodge schools. Fred entered into the U.S. Army in January, 1941. On November 13, 1941, Fred was united in marriage to Betty Grall at Bethany, Missouri. During World War II, Fred proudly served in Ireland, England, Scotland; as well as under General Eisenhower in North Africa, and as part of the Anzio invasion of Italy. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Fort Dodge. Fred was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 15 years and then with the U.S. Postal Service for 21 years before retiring in 1979. Fred also served as transportation coordinator and was head of the van program for the Disabled American Veterans for 17 years. He also held every local office including Commander, and numerous state offices for the DAV, and was a hospital volunteer. Fred was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church since 1923 and previously served as church treasurer. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Fred enjoyed fishing, woodworking and playing golf.
