Helen Evelyn Babcock, the daughter of Orville W. and Evelyn (Nielsen) Thompson, was born October 15, 1929 in Lone Rock, Iowa. She was raised and educated near Des Moines, graduating from East High School. On December 26, 1947, Helen was united in marriage with LeRoy Babcock at the United Church of Christ parsonage in Clarion. The couple made their home in Ottumwa and Algona before moving to Eagle Grove in 1958. Helen was an active member of the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church and U.M.W. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with family.

Helen passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at Careage of Clarion at the age 80 years. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, LeRoy Babcock of Eagle Grove; 4 children: George Babcock and Sandy of Eagle Grove, Kim Hamrick and husband Mike of Fort Dodge, Sheila Dunn and husband Tom of West Des Moines and Jeb Babcock and wife Karen of Eagle Grove; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and a brother, William Thompson and wife Edna of St. Louis, MO.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Mike Agnew officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
