Grinnell Herald - Grinnell, Iowa
December 24, 1909

William Shearer was born in Pitcaple, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on February 18, 1852, and departed this life December 21, 1909, aged fifty-seven years, ten months and three days. He came to America in June, 1872, and settled on a farm near Ewart, where he remained for seven years. In the spring of 1882 he went to Wright county and lived there until 1902. He has since resided in this county. Mr. Shearer was of a very quiet and retiring disposition, yet he was a kind neighbor and a true friend. For years he has been afflicted, but he bore his suffering patiently. He took great delight in the Bible and the inspired Word was a great comfort to him in his long sickness. The Twenty-third Psalm was an especial favorite, and was quoted over and over again. In his last illness he left many assurances that his hope and trust was in Jesus, whose coming he eagerly awaited.

He leaves an aged mother, six sisters and one brother besides other relatives and friends, to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the home on north Summer street Thursday at 1:00 p.m., and were conducted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Messrs. Kibby, Benson, Davies and Kensinger.
