Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaDonald C. Palmer, 89, of Fort Dodge, died on Sunday, May 02, 2010, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 4th at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Today, where there will be a rosary at 4:30 and a vigil at 7 p.m.
He is survived by his sister, Rowena Halligan and her husband Ray of Fort Dodge; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Ida Welter Palmer; brothers, Forrest, Clyde, and Lloyd; and a sister Leola Stewart.
Don C. Palmer was born on October 10, 1920, in Fort Dodge. He attended schools here. Following his education he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp in Clarion. From there Don chose to join the Merchant Marines. In 1942, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy serving during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946. Don then went Coyne Electrical School where he learned radio and television repair. Upon returning to Fort Dodge he went to work for Earl Kopp at the Radio Center. He later owned and operated his own radio and television repair shop out of his home. Don was a H.A.M. radio enthusiast and enjoyed gardening. Memorials may be left to Trinity Hospice of Fort Dodge or to the Holy Trinity Parish.
