Lynn Carl Abbott 68, of Boone, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Lynn was born on April 28, 1941 in Clarion, Iowa, the son of Carl Lee and Clara Leona (Schutt) Abbott. He graduated from Clarion High School in 1958. Lynn did some farm work and railroad work, and in 1961 spent 6 months fighting forest fires in California. He then attended junior college at Webster City, Iowa, and then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and graduated in December 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Utilization. Lynn then did graduate work at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota.

Lynn was married to Ruth Ann Jurries on September 5, 1964 at Northfield, Minnesota. He served in the United States Army Reserves and was discharged on January 14, 1970. Lynn worked at the United Building Centers, in Madison and Watertown, Wisconsin and in Fairmont, Minnesota. In 1978 he moved his family to Boone where he managed the United Building Center in Boone. When he retired he had almost 42 years with the company. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone, serving twice as congregation president as well as being very active in the church. He was member and past president of the Boone Rotary Club, the Boone High School Booster Club, a member of the Boone Chamber of Commerce and the Boone Jaycees. He was a long time member of the Boone County Fair Board and he was active and worked on the committee for Pufferbilly Days in Boone. He was given the honor of lifetime member of the V.F.W. of Boone and he worked with the F.F.A. judging speeches. He served on the Camp Hantesa advisory board and did some work with Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and with his hobbies of golf, fishing, woodworking and some gourmet cooking.

Lynn is preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters, Margaret, Oris and Leona. Lynn is survived by his wife, Ruth Abbott of Boone, Iowa; his son, Andrew C. Abbott of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his son, Christopher L. Abbott (Amie) of Glenwood, Iowa; his two grandchildren, Gaven and Brecken Abbott of Glenwood, Iowa and cousins.

His wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church located at 712 12th Street in Boone. Rev. Lindsay Watkins will officiate. A Private Family Burial will be held in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 14, in the Trinity Lutheran Church Parish Hall located at 712 12th Street in Boone from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with the family present to receive friends. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church from 8:30 A.M. to the time of service at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone in memory of Lynn Carl Abbott. Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home located at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
