December 31, 1894 -- December 13, 1971

Mary Anna Baxter was born Dec. 31, 1894 in Adams, Minn., the daughter of Mathias and Applonia Schaefer. She attended schools at Meyer, Iowa and Little Falls, Minn. She grew up on farms in Minnesota and northern Iowa. On Nov. 29, 1913 she married Earl Lewis Baxter in Austin. After marriage, she lived on East Oakland ave. until 1916 when they bought a farm south of Austin. In 1921 they moved to a home at 607 W. Oakland Ave. In 1927 the family moved to the wooded area north of Austin known as Falling Logs. Mrs. Baxter was a member of Crane Addition Community Chapel, Eagles Auxillary No. 703, AMC and BW Local P-9 Axillary, Lincoln PTA. She was a past president of Lincoln PTA and Union Axillary; charter member of Eagles Auxillary and of Union Auxillary. She was a member of the Crane Addition Community Chapel and attended the early service there the day preceding her death. She was an active member of the Missionary Society there until failing health prevented her attendance.

Mary Baxter died Dec. 13, 1971 at Raymond's Nursing Home after suffering heart failure. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 15, at Crane Addition Community Chapel, Rev. Joe H. Matt officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery with Mayer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Marcella) Wentzel, Mapleview, Mrs. Charlotte Torgerson, Goldfield, Iowa, Mrs. Robert (Hazel) Withee, Shady Cove, Ore., Mrs. James (Dorothy) Barber, Charles City, Iowa, Mrs. Wilson (Ardith) Soper, Hartland, Minn.; three sons, Floyd, Gaylord, and Richard, all of Austin; 31 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Leon (Anna) Adams, St. Paul, Mrs. William (Christina) Tatreau, White Bear Lake, Miss Clara Schaefer, Austin; one brother, Joseph Schaefer, Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 1960, an infant son and daughter, four grandchildren, one great-grandson and a son-in-law. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Her home in the woods brought her much joy and she delighted in God's abundant provision of birds, flowers, trees, and all of nature. This delight was shared with her family, along with bounteous love each knew was there.

She leaves many aching hearts comforted by God's message "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things passed away.

Out-of-town people at the funeral came from Shady Cove, Ore., Sunnyvale, Petaluma and Carson, Calif.; Granite City, Ill.; Witchia, Ka.; Charles City, Ellsworth, Goldfield, Eagle Grove, Iowa; St. Paul, White Bear Lake, Adams, Hartland, Glenville, Minn.
