Dean R. Becker, 84, of Meservey, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, at Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South, Belmond, Iowa. Pastor Rodney Meester will officiate. Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Blairstown, with graveside military rites provided by American Legion Post 167 of Newhall. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight and one hour before services Friday at the funeral home. Dean is survived by his wife, Bea; sons, Curtiss of Newhall and Kevin of Marshall, Wis.; two grandchildren, Doug Becker and Shallen Becker; and a sister, Irene Furler of Newhall. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother and sister-in-law, John and JoAnn Becker.

MESERVEY - Dean R. Becker, 84, of Meservey passed away Monday (March 29, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services for Dean Becker will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, at Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond, with Pastor Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will take place in the Pleasant Hill cemetery near Blairstown. Graveside military rites will provided by the American Legion Post No. 167 of Newhall. Visitation for Dean Becker will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dugger Funeral Home in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to services on Friday.Dean Russell, the son of Walter and Nola Koser Becker was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Blairstown. He grew up in the Blairstown area where he attended school. Dean graduated from Blairstown High School in 1943. After graduation, Dean entered the Army. When he was discharged from service, Dean returned to Blairstown where he worked for the Iowa Highway Commission. Dean loved to dance. It was once said if there was a dance in the area he would be there. It was at a dance in Cedar Rapids, that Dean met his beloved wife, Beulah "Bea." Dean and Beulah were united in marriage on Aug. 19, 1952, in Westminister Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Dean worked for Dows Manti Dairy as a route salesman for 14 years. Dean and his brother owned and operated the Becker Brother's Standard in Coralville. Dean and Bea bought the bowling alley in Newhall in 1969. They sold the business in 1982 and moved to Meservey to be closer to the cabin in Minnesota, where they enjoyed fishing together. Dean was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post No. 167 in Newhall. He was an avid sports fan of the Chicago Cubs, Boston Celtics and Dallas Cowboys. Dean was an umpire for semi-pro baseball for 12 years and officiated high school basketball for seven years. Dean also enjoyed golfing and fishing. Dean carried a dollar bill in his shirt pocket since October 1972.
Dean is survived by his wife, Bea; sons, Curtiss of Newhall: Kevin of Marshall, Wis.; two grandchildren, Doug Becker and Shallen Becker; and a sister, Irene Furler, of Newhall. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, John and JoAnn Becker. Dugger Funeral Home.
