BELMOND, IA - Mary H. Myers, 80, of Belmond, passed away Wednesday (March 24, 2010) at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services for Mary Myers will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the United Church of Rowan in Rowan, with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating. Burial will take place in the Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Visitation for Mary Myers will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made in the name of Mary H. Myers.
Mary Helen, the daughter of William and Winifred McKinney Hannah was born March 14, 1930, in Hansell, Iowa. She grew up in the Hansell area where she attended school. Mary attended and graduated from Hansell High School. After high school, she attended and graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. Mary was united in marriage to William Myers on Nov. 23, 1952, at the United Methodist Church in Hampton. The couple made their home in Rowan. Mary worked as the director of nursing at the Belmond Hospital and the school nurse in Alexander. Later Bill and Mary would move to Alexander and Belmond. Mary entered the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond in 2009 where she found herself surrounded and cared for by co-workers, caregivers and friends. Mary loved being a mother and grandmother. Family was most important to her. She enjoyed baking, embroidery and gardening. Mary was a member of the Iowa Methodist Nursing Alumni and the United Church of Rowan.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bill; children, Cathy Schmitz and husband, Ron, of Minneapolis; John and wife, Brenda, of Kansas City, Mo.; and Jeff and wife, Sheryl, of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren, Jeff, Chris, Amber (Bryon), Nick, Micah, and Jacob; a sister, Jo Ghrist, of Des Moines; three brothers, Bill Hannah and wife, Marilyn, of Hampton, Dick Hannah, of Kellogg, and James Hannah and wife, Doris of Hansell; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Dugger Funeral Home.
