Kevin was born in Iowa City, Iowa, November 28, 1959, to Joe D. and Gloria (Grose) Reed. He graduated from LeMars Community School where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, in 1982. He began his teaching career in Goldfield, Iowa, where he also coached volleyball and basketball for three years. He then moved to the Des Moines area in 1985, and joined the Dallas Center-Grimes faculty as a social studies teacher. While at DC-G, he coached girls’ basketball, volleyball, and golf. He was an assistant girls’ basketball coach most recently at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines for four years, during which time they were crowned state champions. He was also a coach for several years for the Iowa Stars, a 12 and Under Baseball All Star team that competed in the National Baseball Congress World Series.
His children were an important part of his life and he enjoyed following their activities whether it be academics, music, or sports. Kevin will always be remembered as being a passionate teacher who made history come alive in his classroom. Regardless of his students’ interest in learning about history, he made it appealing to them. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees, Jimmy Buffet, and Neil Diamond.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Dana; his children, Keegan and Kileigh; mother, Gloria (Grose) Reed of Florence, AZ; sister, Kellie and her husband, Travis Groft and their two children, Wally and Lucy of Lincoln, NE; step-children, Megan and Dave Woolworth; and a host of many other loving family members and friends.
