A funeral service for Grace Johanna Chrischilles was held Monday, March 1, 2010, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Algona with Rev. Deborah Pope officiating. Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery in Algona.

Grace Johanna Chrischilles was born Nov. 12, 1920, at Mayville, Wis., to Joseph and Sadie (Wagner) Knutson. Grace graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1938. She first worked at the Dress Shop and later at Scott’s 5 & 10. She was also a receptionist at Dr. Christianson’s office in Eagle Grove. Grace was married to Theodore Chrischilles on Aug. 10, 1948, in Ft. Dodge and the couple moved to Algona. Grace was an accomplished homemaker enjoying cooking and sewing. She was known in the community for her apple pies and Norwegian pastries. She participated in 4-H, as well as P.E.O., Women’s Fellowship, a bridge club and round robin through the hospital auxiliary. Grace was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Algona. Grace died on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society — Algona where she had been a resident since August 2006. She was 89 years old.

Survivors include her children, Cathy and husband Tom Temple of Urbandale; Julie Ann Heckmann of Dubuque, and special friend Mike Devine and Theodore Gene Chrischilles and wife Betsy of Iowa City. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Brad and Eric Temple, Christine and Meredith Heckmann and Ben and Jillian Chrischilles. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Marvin, Richard, Eugene, Milford, Arthur and Kenneth and her husband Ted in 2008. Memorials will be given to the Good Samaritan Society — Algona. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Algona was in charge of arrangements.
