Marilee Curell, 77, of 1318 South Linn Street in Boone, Iowa passed away at her home on Monday, February 15, 2010. She was born on July 23, 1932 in Rockford, Illinois the daughter of Wayde and Arminta (Booth) Oxenford. On August 13, 1950, she married Willis “Bill” Curell, at the First Baptist Church in Boone, Iowa. Marilee and Bill spent 53 loving years of marriage together before his passing in 2003. Marilee was a graduate of Boone High School. She was a homemaker and had a great passion for music, always willing to share her tremendous vocal talent. She also participated in the Boone Community Theatre. She was active in her church, both the First Baptist Church in Boone, serving as the Choir Director for over 40 years, and the First Baptist Church in Johnston, Iowa. Marilee served on the National Boards of Church Women United, American Baptist Women, and the Retarded Children Association and was locally involved on the Boards of the River Valley Residential Home and Genesis Development.
Her parents; husband, Bill, and 2 brothers, John Oxenford and Kenneth Oxenford; and a sister Jean Dunlap preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Curell of Belmond, Iowa; 2 sons, Jim Curell and wife Kim of Boone, and Ken Curell and wife Cathy of Boone; 4 grandchildren, Andy Curell of Boone, Ryan Curell of Ames, Nathan Curell of Ames and Jason Curell of Orlando, Florida; 1 brother, Roger Oxenford and wife Lou of Boone; 2 sisters, Ellen Wirth of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Peggy Kooser of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday morning, February 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Boone with Revs. Jerry Bertelson and Timothy Bonney officiating. Her body has been cremated. Private interment of the cremains will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the First Baptist Church in Boone on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to either the First Baptist Church in Boone or Johnston, Iowa; the American Diabetes Association or Krysilis, Inc. in Clarion, Iowa, where her daughter, Cathy, resides. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
