William was born on January 24, 1911 in Dows, Iowa, the son of Robbie and Delphina (Martin) Moore. William was united in marriage to Harriett Hanson on April 26, 1941 in Iowa Falls. He was a farmer and a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He had a lifelong attachment to agriculture and farming and saw many changes and innovations in this field in his life. He had a special interest in the livestock industry. His first 4H projects were sheep and he spent early years fitting, exhibiting, and shearing sheep. This interest led him to a long time involvement in the Hardin County and Iowa State Fairs. He served on the County Fair Board and as Superintendent of various livestock departments. He and his family became actively involved in the production, exhibition and promotion of Shorthorn cattle. He and his wife Harriett were honored in 1985 as "Builders of the Breed" by the American Shorthorn Association. Shorthorn cattle continued to be a true passion in his life and after retirement from active farming he and his wife served as superintendents of Shorthorns at the Iowa State Fair for many years. They also attended many of the World Shorthorn Conferences including those held in Australia, South America, Great Britain, Canada and the US. For fifteen years he spent winter months in Texas and became acquainted with a whole new group of friends. Here he exhibited the axiom that you can't take the farmer off the farm as he learned to grow oranges and grapefruit. He was very proud that his were the biggest in the trailer park.

William is survived by his wife, Harriett; a daughter, Mary Jensen and her husband, Dave of Iowa Falls; a son, Bert Moore and his wife, Millie of Elkhorn, NE; seven grandchildren, John Jensen and his wife Shannon of Iowa Falls, William Jensen and his wife, Katy of Iowa Falls, Sondra Mulford and her husband, Brett of Bloomington, IL, Julie Rau and her husband, Keith of Iowa Falls, Jodie Jensen of Iowa Falls, and Angi Politzer of Hugo, MN; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Bunte of Minnesota and Helen Smith of Des Moines; and a brother, Robert Moore of Green Mountain.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; and a grandson, Paul James Moore.
