DOWS, IA - Amy Deloris (Oakland) Johanson, the daughter of Cayton G. and Mabel (Hill) Oakland, was born on January 1, 1921, in Badger, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1939 and then attended nursing school at the University Of Iowa graduating in 1943. Amy worked at the University as a Registered Nurse for 4 years. On October 15, 1944, Amy was united in marriage with Otto "Bud" Johanson, in Badger. The couple lived in Providence, Rhode Island for one year and moved to Laurel, Iowa for four years. In 1951, they moved to the Dows/Williams area and started farming, retiring in 1989. Amy was a member of the First Lutheran Church E.L.C.A in Dows. She was very active in her church as she served as President of the Congregation and ELCW.

Amy passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010, at Westview Care Center in Britt, at the age of 89 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud Johanson in 2009; granddaughter, Andrea Johanson and a grandson, Aaron Johanson.
Survivors include her sons: Paul M. Johanson and wife Melissa of Leland, Dennis B. Johanson and wife Gloria of Britt, Mark E. Johanson and wife Jackie of Duchesne, UT and John S. Johanson and wife Lisa of Arlington Heights, IL; daughters: Diane Ryerson and husband Rich of Pella and Cynthia Wilson and husband Wyman of Vancouver, WA; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17th, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Dows with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Dows. Burial will be in Otis Grove Cemetery near Dows. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church in Dows or Hospice of North Iowa at 232 Second Street S.E. in Mason City, Iowa.
