Charlene Rae Johnson, 75, Des Moines, died January 31, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines. She was born Dec. 17, 1934 in Iowa City, the daughter of Charles and Nina Rush Bower. She graduated from Mason City High School. She married Kenneth Johnson in 1954, and retired from Mercy Hospital in Des Moines in 1999. She was a member of the Elks Club and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and reading books. Charlene is survived by her husband Kenneth; children Craig, Charles, Susan and Shayne; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
