RENWICK, IA -- Howard C. Gillespie, age 72, of rural Fountain, Minn., died Monday evening, Nov. 15, 2004, at his home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Preston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Rader officiating. Burial will be in the Fountain Cemetery. Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the church on Friday an hour prior to the service.

Howard C. Gillespie, 72, of rural Fountain, died Nov. 15, 2004 at his home. He was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Oskaloosa, Iowa to C. M. and Amy (Hoffman) Gillespie. As a boy, he moved with his family to Renwick, Iowa, and graduated from Renwick High School. He farmed with his family until his marriage to Joann Madison on Aug. 15, 1954, in Goldfield, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Renwick until moving to the Fountain area in 1958. Mr. Gillespie was a farmer and also was a sales representative for Pioneer Seeds for 10 years, a farm loan officer at F&M Community Bank in Preston for five years, a Garst district sales manager for six years and a school bus driver for the Preston-Fountain school district for a few years. He was a member of Fountain United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherry (Gary) Hareldson of Fountain; four sons, Jeff (Jacki) of Fountain, Paul (Pamela) of Iowa City, Iowa, Kent (Kelli) of Chatfield and Kirk (Tracy) of Mounds View, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; a brother, James (Betty) of Hillsdale, Ill.; and a sister, Judi Squiers of Cordova, Ill.
The funeral for Howard C. Gillespie was Nov. 19 at Preston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Rader officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
