Merlin G. Braun

July 31, 1927 – November 6, 2008

Funeral services for Merlin G. Braun will be held Tuesday, at 10:30 A.M. at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer, Iowa. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 P.M. at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, Iowa. Burial will take place at the Marion Center Cemetery in rural Latimer, Iowa. Rev. Tom Cofer will be officiating.

Merlin G. Braun, 81,of Latimer, Iowa, passed away November 6, 2008, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. He was born July 31, 1927, in Belmond, Iowa, to George W. and Margaret (Green) Braun. Merlin graduated from Belmond High School in Belmond, Iowa. He was married to Norma Westaby on July 31, 1948, in Belmond, Iowa, Norma passed away in 1998, he remarried Sonia Schneider on February 6, 2004, in West Yellowstone, Montana. Merlin was a farmer all of his life. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer, Iowa, he was also a member of the Clear Lake Dance Club. Merlin enjoyed dancing, snowmobiling, motorcycling, motor homing, hunting, fishing and singing in the Barbershop Chorus and Quartets.

He is survived by his wife Sonia Braun of Latimer, daughter Julie & husband Steven Hamilton of Laramie, Wyoming, son James Braun of Springfield, Illinois, step son James Schneider of Cedar Falls, grandson Matthew & wife Kara Hamilton of Akron, Ohio, granddaughter Sarah & husband Matthew Masters of Fort Collins, Colorado, granddaughter Andrea & husband Steve Colburn of Loveland, Colorado, grandson David Braun, Minneapolis, Minnesota, granddaughter Heidi Guld, Boston, Massachusetts, granddaughter Amy Braun of Germany, step grandson Andrew Schneider of Cedar Falls, great granddaughters Kayla & Charlotte Hamilton of Akron, Ohio, great grandsons Luke and Ben Masters of Fort Collins, Colorado. Merlin is preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, grandson Chad Hamilton and great granddaughter Ava Hamilton.
