HAMPTON - Geraldine Ruth Blankenship, 95, of Hampton, died Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2008) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton with the Rev. Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.

Geraldine Ruth Blankenship, 95, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away December 30, 2008, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. She was born November 24, 1913, in Williams, Iowa, to Stanton and Irene (Bryan) Hurd. Geraldine graduated from high school in Alden, Iowa. She was married to Leslie Blankenship in Webster City, Iowa, on June 4, 1934. Geraldine was a homemaker, farm wife and later on in her life, a cook at a local Café. She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. Geraldine enjoyed sewing, crafts, making quilts, plants and reading.

She is survived by her daughter Laurene Meronek of Hampton, granddaughter Leslie Grothe of Forest City, grandson Todd and wife Jonie Blankenship of Leland, granddaughter Robin and husband David Peterson of Forest City, grandson Jeffrey Sporaa of Hampton, grandson Bradley Sporaa of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, grandson Greg and wife Laura Blankenship of Round Rock, Texas, great grandchildren Brandi and Mike Buschman of Kiester, Minnesota, Kelsey and Nicholas Grothe of Forest City, Dennis and wife Casie Peterson of Leland, Tracy Peterson of Forest City, Alyssa and James Blankenship of Leland, Elizabeth and Zachary Sporaa of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Cassandra and Desiree Sporaa of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, great great granddaughter Trinity Buschman, great great step grandson Aiden Peterson, brother Max Hurd of Council Bluffs, daughters-in-law Jan Blankenship of Leland & Patricia Blankenship of Longmont, Colorado. Geraldine is preceded in death by her husband, sons Robert and Donald, sister Marie and brothers Donald & Richard.
