Nellie Kelling Muhm, 96, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa. Nellie, the daughter of John and Lulu Smith Kelling, was born March 2, 1902, in Renwick, Iowa. She graduated from Renwick High in 1919. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught country school in the Renwick and Kanawha area. On August 3, 1921 she and Harlie Muhm were married in Goldfield, IA. The couple made their home in Kanawha. After Harlie's death in 1955, Nellie was a Rural Mail Carrier for two years. Then was a bookkeeper at the Farmer's Elevator until she retired in 1974. Nellie enjoyed her many friends, family and grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary, Rebekah Lodge, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Bible Study group. She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, quilting, and china painting. She spent the last year as a resident of the Kanawha Community Home.

Nellie is survived by her two daughters: Peggy Stevenson of Britt; Penny Stevens and her husband, Stan of Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren: Jock Stevenson and his wife , Deanna, Paul Stevenson and his wife, Joyce, Monica Steiner and her husband,Pat, Michael Stevens and his wife, Becki; and five great grandchildren: Renae Henderson and her husband, Brett, Heather and Holly Stevenson, Daniel Steiner, Drew Stevens; and two great great grandchildren: Carly and Sidney Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, her husband, Harlie, and two children, Billy and LuAnn.
