July 2009Dean Thada, 78, of 1704 N. 24th St. in Clear Lake, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, July 13 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thornton, Iowa with Pastor Milton D. Johnson officiating. Internment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thornton.
Dean Vincent Thada, son of Harold and Ellen (Bertelsen) Thada, was born July 2, 1931 in rural Thornton. His parents farmed in the Thornton area and he graduated from Thornton High School in 1949. On October 29, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Alvira Meinders, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, Iowa. They started farming near Thornton where Dean and Alvira worked side-by-side. They later moved to a farm in the Meservey area. In earlier years, Dean was also an auctioneer along with his brother, Merlin. In 1996 Dean and Alvira retired and moved to Clear Lake. Yard work and gardening were favorite hobbies of Dean. Along with Alvira, Dean spent many years in Texas and Arizona in the winter months and summer months in Minnesota. They were also active in the Garner Rainbow Swingers square dance club. In recent years, Dean enjoyed time spent at the Clear Lake Senior Citizens Center and with the afternoon Clear Lake McDonald’s coffee group. He was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thornton.
Dean is survived by his three children, Byron (Karen) Thada, Crawfordsville, Ind., Diane (Dan) Schultz, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Daryl (Bobbi) Thada, Cissna Park, Ill.; four grandchildren, Amy Schultz, Robin (Joshua) Fowler, Adam (Becky) Thada and Brad Thada. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Stanley, Lyle and Merlin; one sister, Berneice Baack; and his wife, Alvira in 2007.
