A memorial service was held on December 29, 2009 at the Jewell United Church of Christ for Stanley Russell Boggs. Stanley Russell Boggs was born in Clarion in 1937. Following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer, Stan passed away in the loving care of the Israel Family Hospice House with his children at his side. Following his high school graduation, Stan was an airplane mechanic for the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed the time he spent in Japan. Upon returning to the United States, he met the love of his life, Joan Adele (Wilcox) Boggs. Stan was a master of many trades, with knowledge including carpentry, plumbing, electrical and auto body repair. Some of the many hobbies Stan enjoyed were woodcarving, gardening, marquetry, stained glass work, landscaping, reading, fishing and building model airplanes.

He is survived by his children, Cindy (Scott) Modlin of Indianola; Jeff Boggs of Jewell; Jennifer Boggs of Charles City; Chris (Craig) Watson of Milton, Wisconsin; one sister, Charlotte Studer of Ames; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan; his parents; and two sisters, Doris Schroder and Norma Stewart. The family requests memorial donation be made in Stan's name for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
