Donald W. Ellingson, 91, of, Iowa Falls, and formerly of Popejoy, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Donald W. Ellingson will be 2:00 pm Sunday at the Popejoy United Methodist Church with Reverend Martha Bennett officiating. Burial will be at the Oakhill Cemetery, Popejoy, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 pm Saturday at the Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel, with the family receiving friends between the hours of 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Memorials may be directed to the Popejoy United Methodist Church or to the Oakland Cemetery Society; both can be mailed to 808 Dodd Street, Popejoy, Iowa, 50227.

Donald Wilford Ellingson was born November 9, 1914, in Franklin County, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Agnes [Alverson] Ellingson. He was baptized April 11, 1915. He attended country grade school and graduated from the Oakland Township High School with the class of 1932. On February 18, 1940, Donald was united in marriage to Clara Alice Akers at her parents’ home in Franklin County. To this union, three children were born: Sherryl, Max, and Diane. They farmed southwest of Popejoy retiring in 1983. They moved to Iowa Falls in 1993. Don played baseball as a youth and even after marriage; was involved in drama (acting in many plays); enjoyed music and sang in a trio with his brothers. He enjoyed playing billiards with his son, his grandsons, and especially his good friend Henry. Don was a member of the Popejoy United Methodist Church, serving in various offices including the Board and serving as an Elder of the church; the Oakland Township School Board, including when they made the transition and dissolution of the district; a charter member of the Popejoy Lions Club, serving in many offices; and a member of the Oakland Cemetery Society.

Don Ellingson is survived by his children: Sherryl Dighton and husband, Lyndon, of Boone, Iowa, Max Ellingson of Placitas, New Mexico, Diane Guerttman and husband, Dan, of Casper, Wyoming; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren: Sally Overland and husband, Ian, and children: Jordan, Mitch, and Carrie of Boone, Iowa; Dan Dighton and wife, Sally, and children: Ben, Ryan, and Emma of Boone; Jeff Dighton and wife, Ammie, and children: Paige and Carter of Boone; Nathan and Matthew Guerttman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Katie Guerttman of Casper, Wyoming; Lisa Ellingson-Martin and husband, Jim, and children: Zachary and Jacob of Placitas, New Mexico; and Carrie Ellingson and children: Alexa and Christian of Orchard Park, New York.
