Ed Scribner passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009. He was born April 21, 1924 in Hardy Iowa, and was number nine of eleven children. In 1944, while serving in the US Navy, he married Bettye in the chapel at NAS Pensacola, Fla. Over the years, he and Bettye made their home in Florida, Iowa, Arizona and San Diego. They have resided in Escondido since 1967. For many years, Ed was the manager of FedMart Auto Center in Escondido and moved to Sears Automotive from where he retired in 1984. Ed enjoyed volunteering for Elizabeth Hospice, St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop and Hope Food Bank. Ed is survived by his wife, Bettye; daughter, Mary Jo Scribner-Howard and son-in-law, Samy Tawfik of Irmo, SC; grandson, Joey Scribner-Howard of Irmo, SC; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by a son, Donnie D. Scribner. There will be a funeral service held at 6 p.m., Thursday, October 1, at the Chapel of Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, Escondido, Calif. Dr. Paul Black, of House of Prayer Lutheran Church, will be officiating. Ed requested that any memorials be made to: Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Ronald McDonald House or Hope Food Bank. Special thanks to Elizabeth Hospice, his loving neighbors, as well as to Sien, Heather, and Julie who helped care for him in his last days.
