Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaEAGLE GROVE - Viola J. Armstrong, the daughter of Bernhardt and Anna (Mickelson) Munson, was born July 18, 1922, in Kanawha, Iowa. Viola was raised by her mother and Carl Jacobson and educated in country schools in the area of her birth. On September 23, 1940, Viola was united in marriage with Robert Armstrong at Algona, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove. Viola worked for Wilson Poultry, TG & Y and Ben Franklin in Eagle Grove and for Morton's Frozen Food in Webster City. Viola was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and camping.
Viola passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the Bradford House in Bentonville, AR, at the age of 87 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 2007; daughter, Betty Janssen; seven brothers: Alfred, Bennie, Theodore, Elmer and Clarence Jacobson, Marion and Amos Munson and five sisters: Burdette Helm, Genevieve Thompson, Alma Odland, Caroline Jacobson and Connie Kemp. Survivors include his daughter Helen Campbell and husband Gilbert of Bentonville Arkansas; son, Doug Armstrong and wife Nikki of West Des Moines; 7 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and step-sister, Mabel Odland of Eagle Grove.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 1:30 p.m. at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
