KLEMME, IA -- Alice Mathilda Hummel, 89, of Klemme, died Wednesday (Oct. 30, 1996) at her home in Klemme. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, with Pastor Georgia White-Kisslring officiating. Interment will be in Ell Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may direct the memorial to the Alice Hummel Memorial Fund.

Alice Mathilda Hummel was born on Sunday, Feb. 24, 1907, near Kanawha, to John and Taalena (Anderson) Johnson. She was raised and educated in the Kanawha area. At an early age, she was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith in the Kanawha Lutheran Church by the Rev. P.B. Trelsted. On Dec. 19, 1928, she was united in marriage to Hugh Hummel of Klemme. They farmed west of Klemme until they moved to Klemme in 1959. Alice did babysitting for several children, enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She enjoyed company and baking for her family and friends.

Alice is survived by her sons, Leland and his wife, Beulah, of Klemme; Ronald and his wife, Beverly, of Ankeny, and Gary and his wife, Ann, of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter, Lois Finlayson and her husband, Jon, of Mason City; a special niece, Marie Perkins of Mason City; grandchildren, Diane Stadtlander and her husband, Curtis; Joleen Chiodo and her husband, Ben; Shelley Vining and her husband, Dan; Renae Verduyn and her husband, Brian; Jill MacEachern and her husband, Brian; Kristin Shafer and her fiancee, Michael Brass; and Kaitlyn Hummel; great-grandchildren, Holly and Andy Stadtlander, Matthew Seiferst and Kaci and Nicole Shafer; sisters, Esther Hess of Klemme, and Ruth Nuehring of Mason City; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh; a sister, Edith Caroline Johnson; and four brothers, Bert Johnson,
John Johnson, Alfred Johnson and Carl Johnson.
