LUSBY, MD -Virginia "Ginny" E. Mennenga, 66, formerly of Clear Lake, died Sunday (Sept. 13, 2009) at her daughter's home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. Clear Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. According to her wishes, her body has been donated to Anatomy Gifts Registry, Glen Burnie, Md. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Virginia E. Mennenga Memorial Fund in care of Eva Burns, 416 Round Up Road, Lusby, MD 20657.
Ginny was born April 3, 1943, in Rowan, the daughter of Weston and Ada (Shahan) Hughes. She attended Belmond and Clear Lake schools. Virginia was united in marriage to Kyle Mennenga on July 23, 1960, in Belmond. With her husband they farmed in the Steamboat Rock area. They moved to California in 1984 and returned to Iowa in 1991. For many years Ginny enjoyed cooking as a dietary aide at the Oakwood Care Center. Ginny enjoyed her family, collecting owls, reading and listening to country music.
Ginny is survived by her daughter, Eva Burns and her husband Robert, Lusby, Md.; son, Robert Mennenga and his wife, Wanda, of Radcliffe; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rebecca (Steve) Frerichs of Steamboat Rock and Linda (Gene) Helland of Fonda; six brothers, Lee Hughes of Clear Lake, Gary (Joann) Hughes of Peoria, Ariz., Lyle (Margaret) Hughes of Marion, Darwin Hughes of Clear Lake, Keith (Suzette) Hughes of Truesdale and Paul (Judy) Hughes of Parkerburg, along with many nieces and nephews. Ginny is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kyle (Jan. 25, 1999); sisters, Lola Mae Hughes and Barbara Pals; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Beryl Mennenga. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.
