Funeral services for Cyrena Katherine Kinseth were held Wednesday (Sept. 9, 2009) at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Burial was in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Cyrena Katherine (Dewaard) Kinseth was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Renwick, the daughter of Jacob A. and Marie (Edell) Dewaard. She graduated from Corwith High School in Corwith with the class of 1948. She received her nurse's training at Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown in 1950. Cyrena was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Kinseth on March 25, 1953, at the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha. Cyrena worked as a nurse at the Belmond Clinic in Belmond, where she met Kenneth, who was a regular blood donor there. From 1966 until 1977 Kenneth and Cyrena owned and operated the Cliff House Hotel and Restaurant in Decorah. Cyrena planned weddings and special events for customers and was known as the consummate hostess with a special knack for making all guests feel welcome. In 1977 they sold the hotel business, semi-retired, and helped their children become established in the hotel business. Cyrena was saddened to leave Decorah in the winter of 2008, which she loved so much. Cyrena and Kenny loved Decorah where over the years they developed so many close friends. From Decorah, Cyrena moved to Primrose Assisted Living in Council Bluffs, one mile from Linda's home, where she found new friends and enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren regularly. Cyrena died on Saturday (Sept. 5, 2009) at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of 80.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on May 5, 2001; her parents; one sister; and two brothers. Cyrena is survived by her daughter, Linda (Keith) Skinner of Council Bluffs; her three sons, Leslie (Alisa) Kinseth of Clear Lake, Bruce (Lisa) Kinseth of Coralville and Gary (Darla) Kinseth of Mason City; her foster son, Jack "In" (Tammy) Won of Orange County, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anne Uken of Kanawha and Nellie Eliason of Pella; her sisters-in-law, Lucille Dewaard of Corwith, Sherri Kinseth of Belmond, and Janice Kinseth, of Belmond; her brother-in-law, Rolland Kinseth of Belmond.
