Mae Harriet the daughter of Gust and Justine Carlson Anderson was born June 7, 1915 on the family farm northwest of Palmer. She grew up in the Palmer area where she attended school. Mae graduated from Palmer High School in 1932. She then attended Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge, where she graduated. Upon the completion of her college education, Mae returned to Palmer where she worked at the Palmer State Bank. Mae was united in marriage to Rueben Samuel Blomberg on Sunday March 12, 1939. Their wedding took place after regular Sunday services at the Pomeroy Evangelical Covenant Church. The couple made their home in Palmer in an apartment above the telephone office. Later, Mae and Rueben would move to the family farm, near Palmer, where they were blessed with two daughters, Janice and Jeanne. Mae continued to work at the bank and later Farmer's Co-op in Palmer. She retired in 1976.
Mae's life revolved around her family and her church. The two were so very closely connected. Being a daughter of Swedish immigrants, her Swedish heritage was very important to her. She spoke fluent Swedish as a young girl, and did not start learning English until she was in Kindergarten. She passed this heritage on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mae loved to cook and then watch other's enjoy her food. Christmas was always filled with Swedish delicacies. Swedish meatballs, potato bologna, lingonberry, ostkaka and lutefisk. A life-long member of the Pomeroy Covenant Church, she was very active in Covenant Women, playing the piano and various other capacities. The faith and beliefs that she passed on to her family will be her greatest legacy. It was in her husband, daughters and their husbands, grandchildren and great grandchildren that she found so much pride and, hence, wanted them to love and be loved the way God intended, through Jesus Christ.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janice (Robert) Dugger of Manson: Jeanne (Harlan) Wittkopf of Algona; grandchildren, Rob (Michelle) Dugger of Belmond: Kris (Angie) Dugger of Nevada: Tim (Susan) Dugger of Decorah: Justin (Maria) Wittkopf of Chicago, IL: Lynne (Scott) DeSotel of Marshalltown; ten great grandchildren, Ryan: Nick: Jonny: Peyton: Sydni: Ben: Avery: Amelia: Noah: Beckham; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rueben in 1999; two sisters and a brother.
