Ronald L. Brayton, 74, of Heritage Manor, formerly of 2772 Bankston Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Heritage Manor. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2659 Kennedy Road, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

He was born on April 22, 1935, in Hardy, Iowa, son of Fay and Esther (Rummens) Brayton. He married Carol Houy on Jan. 26, 1953. Ron owned and operated Ron's Mobil Gas Station from 1962 to 1971. For the next 28 years, he drove for Heartland Express, retiring in 2001 due to illness. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and tinkering with cars.

Surviving are his wife, Carol, of Dubuque; his children, Susan (Carl) Fry, of Hazel Green, Wis., Jane (Mark) Berning, of Dubuque, Douglas (Diana) Brayton, of Coralville, Iowa, James (Lynne) Brayton, of Evansdale, Iowa, and Dennis (Sue) Brayton and Karen (Scott) Schneider, both of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Greg, Brad, Carol and Patti Williams, Emily and Matthew Hantelmann, Jamie, Alex, Nicholas, Alisa, Abby, Cole and Casey Brayton, Cody and Seth Schneider, Christy, Adam, Scott and Heather Berning and Carl Jr., Kevin and Breanne Fry; his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kimberly and Tyler Williams, Alyson Hansel, Lucas and Isabelle Tsacudakis, Haley Julson, Madelyn and Natilie North and Caleb Shol; his brothers, Gerald (Glenna) Brayton, of Colorado, and Alan Brayton, of San Diego; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Brayton, of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Robert. A Ronald L. Brayton Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Manor for the wonderful care and support over these past three years.
