Juanita E. Crapser, 98, Belmond, died July 11, 2009. A memorial service will be held August 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. Lunch at the church will follow for the family.

Juanita Emma was born January 26, 1911, the daughter of William and Anna DeVreis of Chapin. Her brothers and sister were Jerry (Juren), William and Anna. Known as Swanita by family, she worked on the family farm. She met her future husband Glen Crapser, in Sheffield, and married him January 26, 1930 at Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Juanita became the loving mother of Richard in June 1931. She witnessed the robbery of the First National Bank in Mason City by John Dillinger on March 13, 1934. They moved to Belmond in 1934 and were active members of the community. She worked as a steam presser and seamstress in the local cleaners for many years. In 1967, after the tornado took their home, Juanita assisted Glen in framing and raising a new home. Glen and Juanita enjoyed trailer camping with family and friends. They often traveled by car in Iowa or to California and Minnesota to visit family. Juanita and Glen celebrated their 76th anniversary in January 2006. Juanita was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the ladies Bible study group and social committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006 and son in 2005. Juanita is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jackie (701 W. Imperial Highway, La Habra, CA 90631); grandsons Craig (Karen) of Boise, ID and Mark of La Habra; and great grandsons David, Aaron and Kevin. Dugger Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
