Jane E. Mericle, 89, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30th in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil at 7:00 p.m.

Surviving are her sons, James Mericle and his wife Linda, William Mericle and his wife Linda, both of Fort Dodge; daughters, Mary Lou Fraher and her husband Dan of Clive; Rebecca Johnson and her husband Denny of Fort Dodge; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Evelyn Bjerke, of San Antonio, TX, Kathryn Ann Costello of Punta Gorda, FL; brother, Robert Kearns of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents, James E. and Evelyn M. (Anderson) Kearns, her husband Floyd Mericle in 2008; brothers, James (Bud), Jack and Thomas Kearns; sister, Francis Riley.

Jane E. Kearns was born October 26, 1919 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She grew up in rural Duncombe on a farm and attended country school and then attended schools in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1937. She then continued her education and graduated from St Joseph's School of Nursing in 1941. On June 23, 1943 she was united in marriage to Floyd I. Mericle at Corpus Christi Church and they established their home on a farm near Vincent. They lived there until 1980 when they moved to Fort Dodge. Jane worked as a Registered Nurse at Trinity Regional Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and Plane Crazies. Memorials may be left to the Fort Dodge Catholic School System.
