SWISHER, Iowa-- Wayne L. Sterner, 71, died Wednesday morning in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial: Anderson Cemetery near Swisher, with military graveside rites by Swisher American Legion Post 671. Survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Lonnie and Randy, both of Swisher; a sister, Dorothy Parizek of Lone Tree; and a brother, Dale of Swisher.

Born Aug. 8, 1921, in Renwick, he was the son of John and Olive Kepler Sterner. Wayne married Betty Svatosch on July 5, 1952, in Shueyville. Before his retirement in 1979, he was a drill press operator at Rockwell. He served with the Navy during World War II and was a member of Swisher American Legion Post 671. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate. A memorial fund has been established.
