Helen D. Orth, 88, of Windmille Point, 1500 First Ave. N, died Sunday evening, March 15, 1998, in Mercy Iowa City following complications from a stroke. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, by the Rev. C. Dendy Garrett. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Bill of Austin, Texas, and John of Iowa City; a daughter, Joanne Romine and husband Ron of Omaha, Neb.; and three grandchildren, Chris Romine of Tucson, Ariz., Kim Romine of Denver, Colo., and Lisa Orth of Grand Junction, Colo. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl, Esther and Florence; and three brothers, Glenn, Robert and Harley.

Born Jan. 29, 1910, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary Emerick Derscheid, she married Milton J. Orth on Sept. 25, 1937. He died Aug. 26, 1994. She attended schools in Eagle Grove and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in home economics. Mrs. Orth taught school in Dumont and Burlington and was a homemaker for many years. Her memberships included First United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Women. She especially enjoyed flowers, bridge and pinochle. Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Research, Johnson County Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
