Dorothy M. Stone, 90, a resident of the Gernand Center, Strawberry Point, formerly of Delhi, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in her home after a sudden illness. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Delhi United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Thomas Connors. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with Clifton Funeral Home, Earlville.

Dorothy, the daughter of Dorie and Elizabeth Menzel Carvey, was born Sept. 11, 1909, in rural Buchanan County. She married Wayne Stone on June 7, 1936, in Cedar Rapids. He died Oct. 25, 1990. In 1946, they moved to Delhi, where they owned and operated Stone's Hardware for many years. She moved to the Gernand Center in 1996. She taught school in Delhi and Eagle Grove schools. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years and a past matron, past director of Delaware County Historical Society and 54-year member of Delhi Federated Women's Club. She served as Sunday school teacher, board member, board secretary, lay delegate to Annual Conference and circle leader for United Methodist Women at Delhi United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Bill) Ruoff of Los Angeles; two sons, Andrew (Pam) Stone of Newton and John (Debrah Miles) Stone of Hopkinton; a grandson, Nathan Stone; a granddaughter, Sarah Stone; and a sister, Donna Burgus of Kissimmee, Fla. Preceding her in death besides her husband were three sisters, Esther Gallup, Eva Sloan and Lois Kalm; and a brother, John Carvey. A Dorothy Stone Memorial has been established.
